Ballad is a new performance work in which I continue exploring visual and sonic representation of the voice. This time I am looking at one of life most defining gesture, walking which together with speaking makes us superior to animals (allegedly)
Walking is understood here as a simultaneous act of writing and reading (space). Each step taken reads the ground and leaves a trace. A concept I have explored in the past with SLOW MARCH - The making of a road movie (2002/03) and Roadwork (1996/99)
I am using live electronics to connect the visual and sonic dimensions of the work. VALTER is a transformative tool designed specifically to extend and enhance my use of voice and spoken words. VILMA is a transformative tool reacting to various sound parameters (texture, attack, pitch volume) to create real time manipulation of visual material (text, photographs, video, drawings).
VILMA and VALTER have been programmed in MAX MSP by Sebastian Lexer.
